The student union of the University of Ilorin held another press briefing today the 2nd of December at the school auditorium with the theme “rebranding the value system”.
The meeting started with few of the executives absent and the press were told that many were not present because they had one or two things they were up to.
A lot was brought up in this press briefing and one of which was rose by Hakeem a member of the press about the misinformation of the current fee on transport from inside the school premises to outside of the school (oke-odo down to terminus). The student union told the press that the korope drivers has pushed for an increment over the year but the union refused. Then earlier in November the drivers went on strike. The union also said that what the korope drivers are currently doing now – collecting #60 for transport- is not what was agreed upon and they are looking for an alternative means of transportation.
Pelumi another member of the press needed a clarification on whether the congress was a thing of the past or that there will still be a congress. The student union had this to say on the issue of congress, “we are abiding by the constitution, as a union we would call a congress when the need arrives”.
Another important question asked by the press was whether the unilorin idol was for the students who can sing best or for the most popular students on Instagram.
Prior to the request by the organizers of the unilorin idol that likes on Instagram shall be used as a criteria for evicting contestants in the next round and so the contestants with the least amount of likes would be evicted. So therefore, whether or not you can sing very well, if you don’t have many likes on Instagram then you shall be evicted. The members of the press and also a lot of students found this very wrong and also a big downplay on the whole singing competition.

As always the student union had something to say about the whole situation. The student union told the press that it was done that way in order to increase the publicity of the shows.
But there is still a big question left unanswered, which is; “Is using Instagram likes as a criteria for eviction the only way to increase the publicity of the shows?”
